This workshop facilitated by Prof. Gary Latchford will run through the main principles of motivational interviewing, where it comes from and the potential active ingredients. It’ll work either as an introduction or a refresher (but featuring the same jokes).
We’ll also include time to think about where it might be useful, and reflect a little on why people change or don’t change and how we might try to influence that on an individual (e.g. addiction or adherence) and societal (e.g. climate emergency) scale.
Gary Latchford recently retired from the Leeds programme. He’s been interested in motivational interviewing since finding out about it on his very first placement as a trainee. Having used it clinically in physical health and trained medical teams in it for several years, he’s currently thinking about how it might inform attempts to change behaviour or attitudes relating to the climate emergency.
