Service Users and Carers

Do you want to help shape the future of clinical psychology services? Have you or someone you care for used:-

  • Mental Health Services?
  • Psychological Therapy Services?

Everybody's voice is the service user and carer reference group on the University of Leeds Clinical Psychology Course.

What we do

We are involved with and influence the course through various means - in who is selected for the course, teaching on the course, clinical placements, and in the research that the students undertake.

We are looking for new members, are you interested?

What is a Clinical Psychologist?

Clinical psychologists have a background in psychology and work with people to reduce their distress and promote their wellbeing. Clinical psychologists work with people throughout their lives who may have learning disabilities, mental health, or physical health problems.

Trainees undertake a three year course during which they go on clinical placements, attend teaching, and do research.

Who can attend

The group is made up of people who have used mental health services, or have met with a psychologist, or care for or have family who have.

All ages can attend and you are welcome to bring a companion if you wish, especially to your first few meetings.

When do we meet

The main group currently meets every 6-8 weeks on a Thursday at 10:30am. Meetings usually consist of a combination of  service users, carers, tutors, and students from the Leeds course. There are lots of cakes and biscuits at our meetings!

You don’t have to come to every meeting and once you have been there are lots of ways you can be involved.

Are you interested? Want to get involved?

If you’d like more information or would like to organise to come to a meeting then please contact us. We are happy to chat with you about it.

We aim to engender a safe, open, welcoming culture without judgement.  We actively encourage everyone (staff, trainees, service users) to talk about their own mental health, recognising that mental health has a continuum that we are all on.  We are all human and we all experience stress and distress.  We believe “it’s OK not to be OK”.  We value the sharing of experience: it’s how we support each other and learn together.
