Anti-racism and EDI at the University of Leeds

Ethnically Minoritised (opens in new window) – Includes networks, organisations and events related to Black, Asian and ethnic minority individuals.

Equality & Inclusion calendar page (opens in new window) – A guide to support timetabling and ensure the university provides an inclusive environment for staff and students to participate in significant celebrations, key diversity days and remembrance events. This page also includes guidance for managers when responding to requests for time off for religious days and beliefs.

School of Medicine Equality and Inclusion page (opens in new window) – Includes a framework for inclusive practice, information for the disability service and freedom to speak up guardians (in relation to placement options). Additionally, it includes information for the EDI council (a safe space to discuss EDI issues, plans and strategies), information for reporting incidents and online EDI training modules for all to learn.

Equality and Inclusion Policies and Guidance page (opens in new window) - The University has a wide range of written policies and plans covering activities and practices associated with equality and diversity. These include “living documents” and the Equality and Inclusion (E&I) Framework.

The Anti-Racism Toolkit (opens in new window) – This was constructed as part of a HEFCE funded Innovations project looking at Institutional Racism in Higher Education. It uses the University of Leeds as its case study, and comes in the wake of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry (1999) and the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. The report looks at teaching and learning; student recruitment, support and transition to employment; research; employment; contracting; purchasing and external affairs.

Staff Networks (opens in new window) - Organised by staff for staff and PHD students to provide a safe space for colleagues to reach out to others within the University who identify with a protected group or have specific interests. The networks allow for exchanging of information, generating and sharing views and discussing new ideas in an informal environment.
